The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini - 1856 Words

Amir had many interactions that shaped him to be who he was by the end of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Through life lessons, Amir could have walked a path of despair but each positive influence pushed him to hope and happiness. Although Amir’s father, Baba, didn’t provide positive influences, or receive maternal or paternal support, Amir is able to receive fatherly advice from Rahim Khan; love and maternal support from his wife, Soraya; and childhood dreaming and confidence from Hassan. Throughout history fathers are seen as being there to show their boys right from wrong and how to be the man they need to be in the world. Early on in The Kite Runner, it is shown that the father/son relationship is quite strained. Baba can’t be the father he should be because Amir is not like him at all. Baba is frustrated that Amis isn’t like him and declares: â€Å"If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never belie ve he’s my son† (Hosseini, 25). Baba sees that Amir doesn’t have the same interests as his father did growing up. He speaks to Amir’s best friend Rahim Khan about it. Baba states: He’s always buried in those books or shuffling around the house like he’s lost in some dream... I wasn’t like that.’ Baba sounded frustrated, almost angryâ€Å"(Hosseini, 23). Baba believes very strongly that you must stand up for what is right. As seen in Chapter 3, â€Å"A boy who won’t stand up for himself becomes a man who can’t stand up to anything† (Hosseini, 24).
